Whether you are a beach bum, culture vulture, or a sport's bum the Vendée has plenty to offer all of you and all of it within easy reach of the gite in St. Valérien.

Seaside

Beautiful sandy beaches are within 40-50 minutes drive of the gite, with the nearest being at la faute sur mer. Venture further up the coast and you may be able to catch the start of the world famous 'Vendée Globe' round the world yacht race at Les Sables-d'Olonne.

Culture

With the cities of La Rochelle and Nantes within easy reach and the world heritage site of 'Marais Poitvin' just down the road there is plenty for the more discerning visitor to discover. For those who require a bit more of a bang to their culture the 'Puy du Fou' theme park should keep you busy.

Walking and cycling

If quiet country roads and meandering foot paths appeal to you then the area surrounding the gite are perfect. Venture a little further up the road and Mervent offers fantastic cycling and walking tracks through its thick forests.

Sports

With five golf courses within easy reach and water sports all along the Atlantic coast, including wind surfing, caneoing and yachting there is plenty for the more active amongst you. For those who like to chill out and relax without exerting themselves, then a spot of fishing at the lake in Mervent may just take your fancy. Any sports fanatic will find plenty to do in the Vendée.

Cuisine

Aside from the expected fresh baguettes and croissants Vendée is famous for its brioche and the village boulangerie will keep you provided with all of these. Due to its proximity to the sea expect great seafood.
