House in Vendée

House Tour

The house is of typical Vendéen design otherwise known as a longère, or long house, and is made of local sandstone. It has two double bedrooms and can comfortably sleep four people, six at a push. The original house is approximately 150 years old and was originally a blacksmiths. It has been extended over the years to include the spaceous living room and kitchen. The large garden will enable you to relax in the long summer evenings and enjoy a barbeque as the sun goes down over the uninterrupted views to the West. If it gets too hot the thick walls and tiled floors throughout ensure that the house remains cool.

Kitchen

The kitchen is a fantastic space with doors leading out onto the garden, perfect for eating outdoors during the summer. It's large size means it easily accomodates a table with six chairs with plenty of space to spare. It has a gas cooker fridge/freezer, washing machine and other expected conveniences. Our favourite room in the house!!! It also leads onto a storage room at the end of the house should you wish to leave larger items such as bikes, suitcases, golf bags, locked within the house. Living Room

This again is a good sized room with a working fireplace and longives (wood beams) typical of the area. There is a comfortable double sofa and chairs as well as a television should you wish to immerse yourself futher into the French culture. Click here for more photos of the living room.

Bedrooms

The larger of the two bedrooms has a double bed with a large cupboard with plenty of additional space to spare. What makes it particularly nice is the door leading outside to the garden. The smaller bedroom has two single beds which can be kept seperate or moved together depending upon your requirements. It also has a small cupboard and hanging rail for clothes. Any suitcases or additional items can be stored in the storage room leading off the kitchen.Click here for more photos of the bedrooms.

Bathroom

The bathroom has a bath with a shower at one end and is perfect for a house of this size. As expected it has a mirror and shaving point over the sink. The toilet is in the room next to the bathroom which also houses the hot water tank. Click here for more photos of the bathroom.

Garden

The garden is huge for a house of this size being well over 1000 metres square. It has been recently re seeded and the grass has taken well. There is a fixed barebeque just behind the house, great for cooking up food in those long summer evenings. Click here for more photos of the garden.
